Accessibility at VanIsleLocal
We want anyone on Vancouver Island to be able to use VanIsleLocal to find and contact a local business. This page states plainly what we do today and how to tell us when something does not work.
What we do today
- Pages use a single main heading and an ordered heading structure, so screen-reader users can navigate by section.
- Interactive controls are real buttons and links, so they work with a keyboard and show a visible focus outline.
- Form fields on the membership and contact flows have visible, associated labels.
- Decorative imagery is marked as decorative; informative images carry descriptive alternative text.
- Colour is not the only way information is conveyed, and body text is set for readable contrast on both light and dark surfaces.
- Layouts reflow without horizontal scrolling down to a 390px-wide screen.
What we do not claim
VanIsleLocal has not been through an independent accessibility audit, so we do not claim full conformance with any standard. We work towards WCAG 2.1 AA as a practical target and fix reported barriers as we find them.
